Top 10 Best Estrogen Blockers for Men in 2017

Top 10 Best Estrogen Blockers for Men in 2017 (Scroll Down to See The Top 10 Ranking List)

Estrogen is the principal female sex hormone, responsible for growth and maturation of female reproductive tissues, but is also an important part of the male endocrine system (albeit at much lower concentrations). There are three major estrogenic hormones produced in the steroidogenesis pathway of humans: estradiol, estriol, and estrone.

Different Forms of Estrogen

Different Forms of Estrogen

Per molar unit, estradiol is approximately 10 times more potent than estrone and 80 times more potent that estriol with regards to its estrogenic effects in the body. You can see the structures of these hormones below (note that ethinyl estradiol and equaline are synthetic forms of estrogen that are not produced endogenously).

How Estrogen is Produced in the Human Body

In females, the majority of estrogen is produced in the ovaries via aromatization of androstenedione — a weak androgenic hormone. In males, however, estrogen is produced in small amounts in the testes, but mainly via aromatization of testosterone (the principal male sex hormone) in fat cells.

Steroidogenesis Pathway

Physiological Effects of Estrogen

Unlike most steroid hormones in the human body, estrogen appears to have both anabolic and catabolic properties with regards to protein metabolism, particularly by regulating production of other hormones.

Literature contends that estrogenic hormones increase systemic/whole-body growth hormone (GH) levels and paracrine/localized insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), both of those being favorable characteristics for promoting muscle tissue hypertrophy while inhibiting muscle tissue catabolism. [1, 2, 3] Furthermore, estrogen promotes water retention which is conducive to cell volumization, similar to the effects of creatine supplementation.

That being said, negative ramifications arise when excessive estrogen is present in the body as it can blockade androgen receptors and down-regulate the production of gonadotropin-releasing hormone in the hypothalamus. Both of these mechanisms ultimately inhibit production of testosterone in the body, which is a potent anabolic hormone.

Is Estrogen Bad for Males?

In short, no. Many males fear estrogen like the Bubonic plague, but the reality is estrogen is a crucial hormone and there is a balance to be found. Estrogen has a multitude of important effects in the human body and even a few anabolic/anti-catabolic effects on protein metabolism, so some estrogen is a good thing in males.

However, do note that excess estrogen levels (especially in males) will likely decrease testosterone production and its availability, thereby impeding the positive effects of testosterone on protein metabolism. Excess estrogen can also lead to serious health consequences like acne, gynecomastia, and low sex drive.

Some general non-supplemental health tips to balance your estrogen production include:[4-7]

  • Eating a well-balanced diet that has ample amounts of micronutrients and dietary fiber.
  • Limiting intake of soy-based foods and phytoestrogens from plant products
  • Limiting alcohol intake as it impairs the liver’s ability to metabolize estrogenic hormones
  • Exercising regularly (particularly resistance training)
  • Maintaining a healthy bodyweight

Top Estrogen Blocking Supplements to Consider (See #1 For The Best)

Managing estrogen production without the use of supplements can be a tough task, especially when levels reach an excessive point. Moreover, males who are prone to producing high levels of testosterone (or those who are obese) are at higher risk for producing large of amounts of estrogen.

The good news is that there is some great estrogen blocking/reducing supplements on the market these days. Check out our top 10 list below (starting with the lowest rated product first, scroll to the bottom for our top-rated supplement):

#10 – Anablox Xtreme by Reborn Labs

81je0x2tvil-_sl1500_AnaBLOX Xtreme is formulated to reduce estrogen by actively inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to estrogen. It also contains ingredients that support/naturally boost testosterone levels and enhance muscle growth, fat loss, energy levels, and performance. AnaBLOX Xtreme also contains a liver support blend of milk thistle and N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine to maximize breakdown and removal of toxins and excess estrogen in the body.

We like the ingredients chosen for AnaBLOX Xtreme, but the products main fault lies in that it contains proprietary blends, thus we are unsure how much of each ingredient is in the product and can’t comment on how effective it should/may be.

KEY BENEFITS OF ANABLOX XTREME

  • May promote libido, energy and performance
  • Enhance liver metabolism
  • Reduce estrogen levels and boost testosterone

#9 – DIM by Olympian Labs image_26163_original_x_450_white

Olympian Labs DIM (Di-Indolyl-Methane) is a potent single-ingredient product containing 250mg of DIM per serving (30 servings per bottle) and is relatively affordable. DIM is a compound found naturally in cruciferous vegetables (e.g. broccoli, cabbage, kale, etc.). Studies suggest that increasing intake of DIM decreases the adverse effects of estrogen in men, and also appears to have anti-carcinogenic properties. This is to say that DIM supports the activity of specific enzymes that support normal estrogen ratios. ol-label

When supplemental DIM is taken along with a program of regular exercise, it may help contribute to good physical conditioning. This product is most likely to be effective for males and not so much for women, however.

KEY BENEFITS OF DIM

  • Helps support a healthy balance of active estrogen in the male body
  • Contributes to healthy metabolism by supporting endocrine balance
  • May help promote fat loss

Buy DIM at Bodybuilding.com for $14.67

#8 – ESTROVOID by VH Nutrition 8198jv2otsl-_sl1500_

VH Nutrition is a relatively unknown supplement company that sells primarily through Amazon.com. However, their estrogen management product, ESTROVOID, is fairly well-received by users and contains a good ingredient complex (albeit a proprietary one). Given the exact amounts of the ingredients are not listed separately, we can only suggest how the product might be effective. That being said, we like the selection of ingredients in ESTROVOID and assuming they’re dosed at sufficient levels, the product would serve as fairly potent cortisol and estrogen managing supplement.

KEY BENEFITS OF ESTROVOID

  • Reduce cortisol and estrogen levels
  • Encourage recovery from strenuous exercise
  • May help increase free testosterone levels and libido

#7 – MYODEX by Axis Labsimage_prodprod790024_largeimage_x_450_white

Axis Labs purports that their formula is a testosterone booster and estrogen reducer thanks to its ingredients DHT and aromatase inhibiting activities. The MYODEX “Estrogen Inhibiting Complex” features full strength Quercetin and DIM. myodex-label

Quercetin is a powerful flavonoid that functions as an antioxidant and appears to reduce the activity of the aromatase enzyme on testosterone, thereby reducing estrogen production. A precise dose of DIM was also incorporated to offer the most effective formula possible. As noted earlier, DIM is a nutrient found naturally occurring in cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, kale, cabbage and Brussels sprouts. Research suggests that DIM may compete with estrogen for metabolism and thus decrease the effects of estrogen.

MYODEX also contains Saw Palmetto extract and beta-sitosterol for inhibiting DHT production (a derivative of testosterone). All of this being said, MYODEX is unfortunately formulated with a proprietary blend and we can’t rank it higher without knowing how much of these ingredients it contains.

KEY BENEFITS OF MYODEX

  • Appears to reduce aromatase activity, thus inhibiting estrogen production
  • May boost testosterone levels
  • Decrease DHT production

#6 – ERASE PRO+ by PEScience image_prodprod3810014_largeimage_x_450_white

The newly reformulated ERASE PRO+ has all the ingredients ERASE PRO previously contained, plus an all new ingredient added to take the formula to the highest level, taking Erase Pro+ a step further as an all-in-one hormone optimizer. Our main gripe is that the ingredients are listed behind a proprietary blend, much like the above products.peslabel

The new ingredient, KSM-66® brand premium Ashwagandha, which is an ingredient with a solid amount of literature behind it showing it to be an effective cortisol controller. While ERASE PRO+ is not technically formulated for estrogen management, it is a worthy hormonal optimizer with a solid ingredient profile overall. For estrogen control, however, the formula is somewhat lacking, and may not be quite as effective as one would hope. If you’re more interested in a cortisol management product, ERASE PRO+ is a solid option.

KEY BENEFITS OF ERASE PRO+

  • Optimize cortisol levels
  • May help reduce muscle catabolism
  • Boost testosterone levels

#5 – NOLVADREN XT by MAN Sports71fzdkfj4jl-_sl1000_

Nolvadren XT is formulated to provide healthy testosterone and estrogen levels with regular use, in addition to a proper diet and exercise program. Nolvadren XT has a transparent label, listing quantities of each ingredient (as we would expect from a proper product label). All MAN Sports products are produced in micro-batches – smaller batches, more attention to detail, in a cGMP compliant facility.717road2kfl-_sl1000_

The formula of Nolvadren XT is pretty solid overall, with proven ingredients such DIM and DHEA to naturally boost sheer testosterone and reduce estrogen & cortisol leading to a leaner, harder and dryer looking physique. It’s also been touted as a powerful libido and performance enhancing supplement. Our main critique would be the doses seem a tad low and this product would not be ideal for long-term use as users tend to report side effects such as joint pain and hot flashes with recurrent use.

KEY BENEFITS OF NOLVADREN XT

  • Increase free testosterone levels
  • Boost libido and performance
  • Helps manage estrogen and cortisol levels

Buy NOLVADREN XT at Amazon.com for $37.99

#4 – E-BRAKE by Magnum Nutraceuticals image_prodprod3490002_largeimage_x_450_white

Magnum Nutraceuticals formulated E-BRAKE with a medley of intriguing estrogen-blocking ingredients, many of which have had research conducted on them. These ingredients include various plant extracts, such as Pygeum bark and Brassaiopsis glomerulata, which appear to contain key flavones and phytosterols that mitigate estrogen production. There is also a host of other solid ingredients in the product to maximize its effectiveness for maintaining proper hormonal balance, check out the label below:ebrake-label

Magnum has been around for quite some time in the supplement realm, and they just recently made some major revisions to their branding, taking a “pharmaceutical” approach to their product iterations. Our main critique of E-BRAKE is that the ingredients are somewhat lacking in conclusive research as of this time, and the price point is a bit higher than we’d like to see for a 24-serving product. That being said, E-BRAKE presents a good option for those with a little extra cash to spare and are willing to give some innovative ingredients a shot.

KEY BENEFITS OF E-BRAKE

  • Support muscle growth and strength
  • Inhibit estrogen production
  • Aid in fat loss
  • Support sexual health

#3 – E-BLOCK by Pride Nutrition81ckm1sezyl-_sl1500_

E-BLOCK is no exception, with a well-rounded estrogen blocking formula designed to help reduce and restore proper hormone balance. E-BLOCK contains key beneficial nutrients such as 250mg of DIM, 650mg of Calcium-d-Glucarate and 100mg of Chrysin that are effective for inhibiting estrogen production and boosting energy. KEY BENEFITS OF E-BLOCK

  • Regulate hormone balance

#2 – CONQUEST 250 by S.A.N.image_prodprod800014_largeimage_x_450_white

CONQUEST 250 by SAN is a single ingredient product with impressive potential. The key component, ursolic acid, has several studies behind it showing it reduces catabolism in lab animals by reducing estrogen levels. The problem with most ursolic acid products on the market is they are grossly underdosed and impotent. SAN, however, did CONQUEST 250 right by including a hefty 250mg of ursolic acid per serving. conquestlabel

Moreover, SAN has been in the supplement business for nearly two decades and has a reputation for producing high-quality products at an affordable price. Nevertheless, if you’re looking to manage estrogen levels, decrease muscle catabolism and increase muscle hypertrophy, then CONQUEST 250 is a solid option and gets our stamp of approval.

KEY BENEFITS OF CONQUEST 250

  • Control estrogen levels
  • Increase muscle repair/hypertrophy
  • Decrease muscle tissue catabolism
